85 wiring harness (Page 1/1)

I'm doing an overhaul on a little iron duke I got for free a few weeks ago. The rebuild is going well and thankfully this engine never saw a fire as far as I can see. But I have an issue, I have two motors, one from an 84 fieri that came with my car and is totally ****ed with no chance of ever running again, but it has a good wiring harness. The other motor (the one im rebuilding) is in decent condition but the wiring harness is a mess. I was looking at both and saw some slight differences in electronics for both engines. Would I be able to use the good 84 harness? Or would I have to use the 85 harness?

Thanks much

It would be so much easier to find a good 85 harness.

The 84 is a very different beast from the wiring standpoint.

Yes, 84 is different... Highlights:

You need to switch 84 wires to 85 Engine Section of C500.
But even that isn't simple as 84 Alt main power goes thru C500 so some mods are needed just for that.

Have to "rewire" OP sender because 84 just have a switch there.
Ignition connectors are different too & need updates because "84" coil is not available.
