3800 suddenly dies. Trouble restarting (sometimes) (Page 1/1)

i have an 84 Fiero with a 3800SC from a 2002 Pontiac GTP. All stock except for Ryan reprogramming the computer, and my exhaust. She runs good and starts fast (usually). i have two problems.

1. Occasionally the car will suddenly die. No warning and no code thrown. Sometimes she will restart sometime not. Local Fiero guys think this is a bad electrical connection to the ICM or the ECM. Does that sound right?

2.Sometimes after sitting, she will refuse to start. i hear the fuel pump and she turns over fast. This last time i turned her off with the key, and 5 minutes later she wudn't start. Cud she be flooding? Wud new injectors cure the problem? i have 45 lbs fuel pressure with key on.

Do i have two issues going on here or are they related?

thanks in advance

Astronomy says we will find a coded signal from outer space. Then we'll KNOW that life exists there, for coded signals aren't by chance.

Biology says there are coded genetic signals in every cell, but we KNOW that no intelligence created life.

I'm the original owner of a white ' 84 2M4 purchased Dec 10, 1983 from Pontiac. Always garaged, no rust, 3800SC, 4-wheel drifts are fun!

That a bit low on fuel pressure.

Does the fuel pressure rise as rpms increase?

That sounds like the ICM is overheating and cutting out. Make sure its mounted to a good heat sink and I would just order a new AC delco unit just because they are a common problem

Crank shaft sensor has been known to prevent restarting when hot. All ok after cooling down. It's not the easiest sensor to replace. Look at the ignition module first as suggested.

When it wont start, spray a lil starting fluid in the tb. Then if it starts you know its a fuel issue, if it doesnt start then its a spark issue. Thatll get you looking in the right direction.
