i finally looked under the back of my new car and saw that the po installed a rear muffler dumping under the car supported by bailing wire.the rest of the system looks good.rockauto doesn't have the parts i need.is the ocelet system from the fiero store my best bet?

IMO, your "best bet" is to acquire the factory exhaust system (from the cat back) off any 2.8 Fiero. Years ago I installed the exhaust from an '85 GT onto my duke powered '84. Just be aware that if you install dual exhaust tips onto most (but not all) duke powered Fieros, there'll only be an exhaust tip cutout on one side of the rear bumper (which will require some finagling).

my base 1987 2.5 car already has the two cutouts which surprised me.maybe a po changed out the bumper.

Should have a "VIN sticker" under the Tag. Stickers on nearly everything start w/ 87 MY is/was required by NHTSA as part of anti-theft
Stickers should match the VIN on the dash.

No sticker or mismatch VIN means off another car.
Sticker but say Replacement is from GM Service Parts.

Off the top of my head I don't know what year or what model, but there were a few duke-powered Fieros (other than the '84 Indy) that originally came with dual exhaust tips.

the fierostore exhaust system will work great, *IF* you just want a stock fiero muffler, tips, and pipes, i have one or two stock v6 dual exhaust setups in charleston WV (5 hours from charlotte on a good day) i rarely check PFF anymore though.

Is your 87 an SE with the grooved side molding, or is it a base coupe with the smooth molding?

the sticker is gone.i looked up the vin of the 87 and also the 88 parts car.they are both four cylinders and both have openings on both sides.the 88 had the sticker and according to wikipedia they are both base fieros.

All 88 coupe rear bumper covers have exhaust cutouts on both sides whether its a 4cyl Left side Exhaust tips or a V6 Dual exhaust tips. Someone probably just installed an 88 rear cover at some point in the cars life.
