After successfully turning over post-rebuild, I primed the oil pump and reassembled everything, only to find that the engine is no longer able to turn over freely. With the spark plugs removed, it spins about 345 degrees in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. I've conducted a thorough inspection of all six cylinders using a scope, but no interference was detected. The cylinder walls still appear fresh, ruling out any immediate internal issues. I've noted that the flywheel seems very close to the bell housing, and I used Grade 10 bolts from a parts store, though they seemed to bolt on fine. I've heard rumors of clearance issues with these bolts. If anyone has experienced a similar problem or has insights on what might be causing this resistance, I would greatly appreciate your advice. I'm considering the flywheel clearance, bolt choice, and any potential mechanical binding as possible culprits. I've only dealt with this issue as valve slap, but does not seem to be the case here. Cylinders number 2 and 6 are at TDC when the interference start. I can get pictures of the cylinders if it would help. I also loosen the rockers on these cylinders and still not able to freely spin.

The engine (2.8L V6?) rotated fine on the stand when assembling?
The problem only arose after attaching the flywheel/clutch and transmission?------------------ My World of Wheels Winners (Click on links below) 3.4L Supercharged 87 GT and Super Duty 4 Indy #163

3.8 Swap - Yes on the stand every thing moved freely. I even primed the oil pump so I know I no I turned it more than once around. It wasnt till after i tried to start it that this happen (spark plugs removed to build oil pressure) The battery was dead at the time so I did not get much cranking on it. I charged the battery and it turned over for a split second then stopped. Did not hear any noise, the starter would no longer push the engine further. I tried to turn it manually and noticed that it was seized. But I could turn it counter clockwise.

If the engine will not rotate 360°, and you have scoped every cylinder to verify it is not valve interference, you have 2 paths to go down. First, remove the flywheel and hand crank the motor to see if it will rotate beyond 360°. If not, then unfortunately I think you're going to have to put the engine back on a stand, pull the pan and front timing cover and inspect everything. Something is very wrong. This is a long shot but easy to do. Remove spark plugs and starter and try turning the engine over using a socket & breaker bar. If no change try backing off the rocker arms and try rotating the engine with same tool as mentioned above. Remove belts as well. With Dial Indicator make sure flywheel is rotating without any wobble. I did say this was a long shot so see how it works out.

Thanks. Spark plugs were already removed. I will get some shots of the cylinders tomorrow. I'm only turning by hand as of now until I can figure this out.
Tomorrow I will pull off the belt and starter and check again. If not I think I need to remove the trans and check then pull the engine again.
