So I noticed that the left headlight wouldn't go down when I twisted the nob on the top so I took it apart and had a really hard time getting the shaft out, it was also seized and wouldn't spin. When I removed it I saw this.
It was covered in mud and now it lookes like rust got to it and chewed through the shaft, seizing it and making it unable to turn.
Does anyone know where I can buy another one? I found the aftermarket aluminum gear but I can't find the shaft.

best bet is upgrade to Gen2 setup because can get new & rebuild motors for that.

When you reassemble your motor with the replacement shaft, there is an O-ring that goes in the case cavity behind the short lift arm. Find the appropriate size and then put a little synthetic brake caliper grease in the cavity before installing the O-ring. I have rebuilt a lot of the Generation 1 motors and have found that some of them even have a very thin steel washer between the O-ring and lift arm.

Would an 88 motor work? I found a ton fo new 88 motors for really cheap so I'd rather go with one of those.

After rebuilding a few Gen 1 motors I would say that it can be a difficult rebuild. The motor brushes often wear down on the springs and new ones need to be put on with conductive epoxy. The rubber dowels in the gear will undoubtedly need replacement and if you are lucky the gear won't be stripped and can be reused. Rodney Dickman sells all the repair parts. In your case it is doubtful that the gear driver and the shaft can be reused. If you can find a used motor, first take off the brush cover and make sure that the springs are not broken. If they are intact the motor may be good but if the motor has been stalled the armature may be burned out. There is a guy on this forum who is developing a kit to use the gen 2 motors on the Gen 1 circuit. Need 87/88 Motors, module & wiring. can "hack" the wiring but need "water proof" & stress release it if can't get OE wiring w/ right plugs.

In that thread... Was trying to eliminate Gen1 Relays & etc but "save" the Gen1 motors @ first...
He's moving towards Gen2 motors too because Gen1 motors have more problems then wiring headaches. But he's still thinking will sell it. Even if gave data etc away, most can't DIY the same w/o spending a lot of money & time.
Several others claim have replace, worse eliminate, Gen2 module in several threads over the years but is not easy to do make them w/o problems that could drain the battery to start fires. Yes, some eliminate & then run by hand but just waiting for a dead motor @ least.

Im the guy ogre referencing. . . First step to repair and rebuild gen 1 motors is to throw them away and by a cheap set of gen 2 and eventually one of my controllers or a OEM gen 2 module. Gen 1s are worthless. Im with ogre on this.[This message has been edited by Dukesterpro (edited 10-19-2023).]
