Water dripping in trunk (Page 1/1)

My 87 gt has sweat forming on the rear trunk lid and drips into the carpet, what is causing this and what can I do to prevent this from happening?

Leaking hardware for wing assemble & notchie deck lid rack does that.

Ogre is right, but....You might be getting rain water leaking in around the "d" panels on each end of trunk opening...the water then gets in carpet and while trunk is closed it condenses on trunk lid.

You should attempt to A) Check the sealing around those "D" panels (I sealed mine with RTV) and B) Dry out the trunk- open lid (When NOT raining/snowing) and possibly set a blow-dryer in there at low heat setting.

I have the carpet out and everything was dry.Since then we have had no rain and went out to run the car to keep the battery charged and that’s when I found the lid sweaty.

I had the same thing, I cannot guarantee that this is what caused it, but In my case it was because the carpet had gotten wet earlier, leaving some water underneath the carpet, because of the way the carpet is made, the underside can be soaked while the surface feels dry, and as the Fiero was driven and the trunk was heated up the water under the carpet formed into steam which then condensed on the deck lid. Which then gave the effect of dripping down into the carpet whereas in reality it was the opposite. Other things that could be is a leaking trunk seal, leaking spoiler gaskets, leaking gaskets around the trunk fan. In my case I removed the carpet thoroughly washed it and dried it, washed and dried the inside of the trunk, and my problem was fixed.

I installed a new trunk seal, new gaskets on the wing. The carpet is out and has been for a while , I haven’t checked the fan gasket, never thought of that, I’ll check that, thanks.

Any time I have the wing off, I use a little bit of butyl windshield setting tape underneath the retainer nuts inside the trunk to help seal the hole. A very thin washer-shaped piece on top of the decklid can help, too.

After replacing my gasket, I had leaks until I applied some sealer adhesive to the sides and extending down past the corner for a couple of inches along the back.
