Where'd that [bleeping] screw go?!? (Page 1/1) |

So my afternoon went from bad to worse.
Swapping out dew wipes. Did it 20+ years ago on my first Fiero, figured it would be a fun little afternoon project to do again. I still have my tool from Rodney last time I did it!
Teardown went well enough, going back together though... drop the screw on the hardest to reach hole, it fell into the door. No problem I think, I've got a magnet on a stick. Fish around for a bit. Nothing. Get out the cell phone and stick it in the door looking around, no sign of it. Get a bit more aggressive with my magnet fishing and camera work, wind up tearing up the vapor barrier. No biggie, easy enough to replace, but I still can't find this dang screw. Slam the door a couple of times, knock on the skin and frame, nothing shakes loose. Getting frustrated I figure it's time to call it for the day, come back another time. Grab the B-pillar to pull myself up and snap the sail panel.
So, anyone know of any little hidey-holes that screw might get caught up on? If not, know anyone who sells replacement screws... and sail panels?

Oh, I also managed to pop off both steel standoffs from the door panel. Any recommendations for glues/epoxies to reattach those?

Could be trapped between the door skin and door frame maybe? I'd pop the 4 plastic rivets off the bottom and pull the skin away from the frame and see if it falls out.
This is one of the reasons I change Dew wipes the proper way, you have more control and access with a proper screw driver.

Of course, they're various ways to accomplish the dew wipe replacement task and this thread below has two "How To" videos with members comments:
Method One - 'easier' but more time and steps (a.k.a. the "proper way") Method Two - harder but less steps using 'special' tools (like Rodney's)
How to replace inner and outer dew wipes. Videos. by 2.5 https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/139805.html

I used super glue to put the steel stand offs back on. You just have to be generous with it.

Fiero Store to the rescue. They have the screws and the door liners in stock!
I'm curious if anyone knows what the two wires are at the bottom of the door. It seems to terminate inside the door frame at the base of the rear window slide.

Year, model and options would be needed to answer your question.....
What color are the wires?

Looks like black and black with a red stripe.
They run along the bottom of the door, so I was thinking it might have been a marker light for when the door is open, but no light, just some sort of block at the bottom of the window track.

It's always fun when you find something someone else did has been into before. Like the B-pillar on one side has a big crack and chunk missing, the other has the speaker cover broken off. The driver side carpet trim piece is missing. And when I went to pull the A-pillars, pretty sure someone has had them off before as the mounts for the tabs were in random directions which resulted in one of the tabs getting snapped rather than sliding off.
I should probably just sign a couple of paychecks over to the fiero store
