Yet another coolant leak (the continuing story of...) (Page 1/1)

So after fixing a leaking water pump, radiator, heater core and thermostat, something else decided to start leaking... I guess each time I replace something, something else in the chain becomes the weakest point and fails...

Yesterday I drove my car for a short while when I noticed thick white smoke coming from the passenger side engine grill. I opened the lid and saw that the smoke was coming from near the battery (left side). At first I thought it was oil that was coming on the hot engine, but after closer inspection, it turned out to be coolant. It was leaking pretty bad - not dump-all-coolant-at-once bad, but pretty bad nonetheless.

The white smoke wasn't there before the engine reached operating temp, meaning I believe the leak to be somewhere behind the thermostat (as opposed to behind the waterpump). I haven't had the chance to better inspect it, but what would be suspect parts to fail? I don't think it's the rubber hose coming from the thermostat housing (although I can't be sure until I have been able to inspect it closer), I think it's something behind that...

Another thing to check would be the heater hoses #1 or #7.
They are usually crimped to the metal tubes running under the car.
You'll need to cut the crimps open to get them off and replace with new hose and clamps.
On 87/88 cars the heater return line #4 to water pump is eliminated, as it connects under the car to the coolant return pipe.
