it apears to be that someone bypased the clutch safety switch, will the car start without the clutch pedal pushed down (make sure to have shifter in neutral) if it starts without you touching clutch, then that is it, no real problem, maybe just make sure that the bridge is clean, connections are solid and the wire gauge is suitable, and that nothing is exposed, then tuck it up out of the way, or ziptie onto the old clutch switch.

Yes, is common to bypass the switch because either switch is "bad" or other issues.

While many claim isn't a problem to run forever like that...
Isn't a good idea for many people because can start in gear causing other problems including Fatal problems to people outside of vehicle.
& if someone gets hurt or killed, expect big legal problems dealing w/ car insurance etc.

Example: I was rewiring 70's Truck that didn't have this "feature" & turn the key to check volts on a circuit & turn the key a bit to far & started the engine then pin another worker to a wall in microseconds. Good thing was sitting in driver seat to push the clutch so no harm done.

Note that Many "old" trucks & others have ignition keys directly connected to the switch, often is 1 piece part, & often difference between run & start is often very few degrees. Worse when have big key rings etc adding to load on the switch. Fiero & many others the key have gear(s) etc before the switch & rotates more just for slack in the setup. Unlike now when they "mod'ed" the switch to have some more rotation even when switch in direct connect to the key.

Very much a temporary fix, but if the owner couldn’t buy a new switch, he’s a lazy SOB, or if he didn’t have the money to buy a new one. He shouldn’t have even been driving that car. It’s a readily available part, so no excuse for that.
Safety inspection station will not pass this car unless this is fixed.

Speaking of which, slightly off topic, where can I get that switch, mine is functional, but the arm that connects to the clutch is slightly broken and make break more or fall out anytime for me, I didn't see that switch or even a category for that switch on rock auto, mine does not have cruise control so that might change the switch a little, anyone have a link to that or part number etc.

Many US States don't have Inspection like FL. Others have "weak" Inspection & won't see the bypass.

Thank you all for your wisdom on this..The car came with a trunk load of parts and I found that plastic white switch and will be installing it.. Let just hope it works... I dont like it when things are bypassed like that especially if it is a safety issue.

Yes, after looking on TFS and RA, you are correct.
I will admit I mis-took this as seeing the cruise control switch on that website.
Happy to see someone took the time to modify theirs from a S10 part.
This is good. As long as it’s new, that’s the way to go instead of getting a used one not knowing the history or how worn out it can be.
My apologies for the bypass, but it is a lazy way to fix things, but to get the car back on the road, it’s the only way to do it.
