I know that sunroof issues have been discussed a million times…here’s another 🤣

I cannot get the glass to squeeze tight enough against the rear part of the seal. So, water pours in. This is what I’ve done:
New seal (leaked worse)
Replaced latch (NOS OEM)
Shimmed latch
Shoe string under weather seal
Soft foam under weather seal (more pliable than shoestring)
Reinstalled used seal (leaked less)
Added tension to the front tabs

Holes are drilled, but the glass is simply not pressing against the seal.

Is there a trick to positioning the latch so that it pulls the glass down tighter? Too many shims causes too much tension on the latch bolts and they pull through the slits in the roof. Maybe just electrical tape it closed for winter?

I have seen the arch of the roof be too flat to follow the curve of the sunroof glass.
I have compared the curve of multiple sunroof glasses, and they have been uniform.
As a last resort, I removed the console and skeleton from the fuel tank tunnel and removed the headliner.
I then used a portapower jack to increase the arch of the roof.
My thought is that perhaps someone had sat on the roof, letting their legs hang into the interior of the car while watching fireworks, or if the car had been used in a parade.
In any case, the fix worked.
Surprisingly, the roof sheet metal flexes quite easily and not much force was needed to restore the arch to snug up to the curve of the sunroof panel.

It seemed extreme at the time....but who knows what has happened to a 35 to 40 year old car over its lifetime?

I regularly drive my Formula in the pouring rain with the sunroof locked open, and no water enters the cabin.

Thanks guys. I have to agree with you, the obvious makes me think that the roof has lost its shape. But I promise, as fun as it sounds, in 17 years nobody has sat on my roof 🤣🤣. It USED to seal well enough to go through a carwash. Garage kept and I only drive 3k miles a year. I do drive it in rain and I do wash it with low pressure garden hose…how I discovered the leak. I blew out the four drain holes, I know that they’re clear. Mind boggling. Think I’ll file a complaint with Pontiac Customer Service hahahaha.

That's quite a list to start, I've grown quite disgusted with GM recently and their engineers attempt at holding liquid back. That said I also had Jack ! from zybert years ago try to tell me the roof wasn't big enough on mine and it they would have to make it bigger. Insert your own icon ...... zybert good riddance, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I like what you tried so far, sounds like a plan. I've had to do something similar regarding GM's TSB for another vehicle. My cars roof still has no holes and I'm undecided whether to do this or are some of us on here smarter than the nitvwits.
