Headlight Motor Keeps Running (Page 1/1)

First off, thank you for all the advice on the other questions I have had. Here is my latest question. My 86 GT sat for 10 years, when I put a fresh battery in it the headlights would work but would not pop up. Before learning that I needed to replace the isolation relay to fix that issue, shortly after replacing the battery I came into the garage to a running passenger side headlight motor. I disconnected the battery, did some research and then replaced the isolation relay. That fixed the pop up issues, however the motor still spins. I then replaced the relay next to the headlight, thinking that may solve the issue. No luck. I did some more research and found out the limiter switch inside the motor may need bad? So since they no longer make these motors, I thought my only option was a used one? Is this the case or can the limiter switch be replaced and or repaired. Thanks for your impute.

Motor's gear(s) are bad & motor won't stop because it can't trip the limit switches inside it.

Many tried to fix Gen1 HL but cost $ & money again & again.

Thank you

So despite the headlight still going up and down, it would still be the gears? Thanks

Motor(s) could operate the lifts because gears etc have enough drag the spin output shaft for now. Is only a temporary issue & fail outright soon.

Is it just constantly spinning all the time, yet will still put the headlight up and down, or is it clicking on and off, trying to spin, but not able to (look at the knob on top of the motor, it will either be spinning or pulsing back and forth)

It originally just started as spinning, then made noise and seemed like it wanted to go back and fourth but just got warm and stayed stationary. If you went to try and spin it, it would sometimes then start spinning and then stop. Now when I connect the battery it just spinss all the the time, but when turning on and off the headlights it does move them up and down now that I replaced the isolation relay.

Ok, so basically the problem is exactly what the ogre said, you can disconnect the motor wires to turn them off electrically, and as long as they are able to go up and down, you can manually turn them up and down with the knobs until you open them up and replace the broken parts, or as someone else is inevitably going to suggest, replace the whole system with the 87/88 motors and modules, which are better/more reliable, and can be bought new.
