I have an 88 gt stock engine and developed a loss of power while acceleration yesterday. Was going to start with changing the fuel filter before trouble shooting everything that I have read. While under the car I notice some white wires with what looked like some type of connector on them that appear to be totally out of place. Can someone tell me if this looks right? Attaching a photo.

Looks like an air conditioning switch connector, that would go to a switch on the back of the A/C compressor. That might be why it's wrapped around the AC line muffler.

I do not recognize. Can you follow the white wires?

Likely Aftermarket "pigtail" plug for AC limit switches on the compressor.
Many to all GM OE limit switches are no longer made or made same way w/ generic wires to replace for whatever reason.
Example: Many switches had 1 pin & ground thru the compressor have to be replace to "update" to 2 pin switches & wire extra pin to ground.
⚠️ Replacement Compressor from any source do not include limit switches & must install new switches that meets your system specs.
Limit switches include 1 to Several High or Low pressure set to different PSI in the compressor & rest of system. ------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. (Jurassic Park)

I didn't get a chance to work on the car yesterday, but Ogre your explanation makes total sense as to what it is. Thanks
