Very sudden electrical problems (Page 1/1)

Well, with most things that go wrong on this car, everything was working and now some things just don't for some reason. During my last outing I found that my trunk release buzzes(?) when you press it, and it makes the interior lights come on and the brake light come on, but shut off when you stop pressing the button. When the trunk is open, the light is very dim and the cabin floor lights come on. After checking some fuses, now the trunk release doesn't buzz but it does make the brake light come on permanently unless I engage then disengage the ebrake. also my power locks no longer work. Obviously this is a ground problem but I have no idea where to begin and even less idea why it has all broken in the span of a day. Worked this morning, doesn't now.

Worth noting, I have a mystery oil leak pooling on the top of my 4 speed, just underneath where the shifter bracket goes in, and I've got oil all over the sensor near the passenger axle, and all over the trans mount. No idea where it's coming from though or if I can replace those seals. Could that oil have shorted something?

okay update, didn't check my CTSY/LID fuse as close as I should've. It was blown, replaced it, everything works, press the trunk release and all the lights dim, and the fuse blows. Bad switch then?

I'd guess a dead short somewhere between the switch and the release solenoid.

Probably right. Strange it would happen overnight. Guess I'll take apart the dash and figure out what died

The oil on the transmission may be from a leaking distributor o-ring.
When you replace the o-ring, be sure to use a distributor gasket from a small block Chevy under the distributor (as well as the o-ring).

Oh right, didn't think to mention its a 3800. I don't see a snail trail coming from the intake or anything though

is there a good wiring diagram that shows that circuit? From what I can tell, it seems to go through a couple splices and I kinda lose it from there
