F23 with 3.73 Final Drive (Page 1/1)
Vedder210 MAY 20, 08:54 AM
I'm starting to gather parts for a 3800sc swap and I came across a F23 with 3.73 final drive from an 08 Cobalt. Anyone have any input for or against the final drive compared to using a 3.63 final drive. Thanks

An F23 with a 3.73 is a new one on me. I thought they were either 3.63, or 3.91.

I wasn't aware there was a 3.73 available either during my marketplace search for a 3.63. From what I could gather online it looks like they were put in a limited number of 08 Cobalts. Couldn't find much info at all though about it.

The 3800SC makes enough torque that it doesn't really need short gearing.

I'd go with the 3.63/1.

it should be noted, that acquiring a 3.63:1 F23 is by far the easiest part of getting one working behind anything but an ecotec.

I invited Lou Dias to trash me in my own thread, he refused. sorry. if he trashes your thread going after me. I tried.

In addition to what's listed there...

The 3.73 from early XFEs and 3.84 from later Cobalts are also available.

So the total list is: 3.63, 3.73, 3.84, 3.94, 4.17 (HHR) and 4.41 (Vue)

Edit: All 2009 manual transmission Cobalts are XFE: https://www.motortrend.com/...alt-xfe-first-drive/

Of all the options listed, only the 3.94 from the 2.2 Cavaliers has the Metric bellhousing that bolts to the 3800.

Edit2: I *think* the M86 is the J-body version with Metric bellhousing, while the M94 is the Ecotec version with the same ratios. The MG3 gets its own RPO because 5th gear is different.
