New 87-88 Headlamp motors (Page 1/1)

Hey,

Has anyone purchased these new headlamp motors off the Fiero store?

https://www.fierostore.com/...20%20%20LH&d=273&p=1

Would anyone know how difficult it would be to install them in an 86 front wireing harness? (My 88 Fiero currently has an 86 wireing harness and motors up front)

Thanks in advance!

The 87-88 Fieros have a headlight relay / module. It's located on the front drivers side (I think you remove the inner wheel well shield, and then it's bolted to the frame). Do you know why 86 headlight motors were swapped in? My only guess is maybe this module went bad, and it was the only thing they could think to fix it. The module is really hard to come by, from what I recall.

Long story short...my car started off as an 86 GT....but the frame was rotting....someone form this forum sold me a mint 88 frame and i spent a year and a half rebuilding the car onto the new frame and converted it into a full 88 GT (rear cradle...suspension...etc..)

The onl;y thing that isnt "88" on my car now is the front wiring harness and the original 86 headlamp motors. Thats why I was asking if the wiring was different....like the plug ends on the motors.

Ah, ok... got it. I'd recommend looking in the 88 Service Manual. There's a downloadable version online somewhere (hoping someone can post it). The motors are not interchangeable from what I understand. They physically are, but the 87-88 motors use a control module which is entirely different than the 84-86 headlight motors. So you'll want to also swap in the module. Ideally, maybe the headlight module was already attached to the 88's frame in the front. As I mentioned, you should see it inside the front left side of the Fiero.

I'm attaching the only picture I have of an 88 where it's visible. This is when my daughter went to visit Larry Hubert north of Tampa. She's standing enthusiastically in front of a rather tired looking 88 (to which she's sad for). If you look directly in front of the front drivers side wheel, you'll see a little rectangular block with two connector holes on either side. This is the 87-88 headlight control module. Check to see if yours is still there. If it is, you've lucked out, and you'll need to simply wire that up to the new headlight motors. Otherwise you'll have to get one or stay with the 84-86 motors.

Bottom line is, you will need:

Wiring harness, head light module and motors.

Head light module is easy enough to find as a lot of Corvette aftermarket shops carry them. If you are lucky maybe you can snag on off a Firebird on Sunfire as well.

Here is 1 place you can buy the module from, but I have seen them as cheap as ~$115 new from a place like this: https://www.zip-corvette.co...ht-motor-module.html
