Does this 84 SE have A/C? (Page 1/2)

Weird question - is it possible to tell from these photos under the deck lid and hood whether this '84 SE has air conditioning or not? I'm guessing they don't show where the relays/ lines/ compressor would be but I'm not sure.

No A/C. You would see an accumulator in the front trunk area.

Thinking about adding an aftermarket a/c if I get one without it... 🤔

I don't know what kind of kits are out there... but it may be easier to just buy the factory parts. The car is still common enough that you should be able to find most of it.

When I acquired my Formula, it had A/C which I didn't need/want. To me, it was just excess weight to be stripped out. (I was autocrossing my Formula at that time.) My buddy had a Formula without A/C, which he missed. So... as I stripped all the A/C components out of my Formula, he installed them in his. There were certain critical components that he replaced with new ones. It was a big job for him to get it all installed and functional... not a task I'd want to take on.

pay extra to get the car you want.you want ac,cruise control and power windows minimum.and buy one with the transmission you want.you may have to wait a few weeks to find it.i wish i had waited.

Yeah, totally makes sense. There is an "emotional" perspective though to some swaps.

For my (you mention the transmission stuff). I have a 1987 Pontiac Fiero SE / V6 that was originally an automatic (Th125c w/ 3.33:1 GX3). But... it was my FIRST car, literally my high school car. I love that car. So, in cases like that, no way I'm replacing it just because I want a stick. I bought another 87 Fiero (that someone else got from an auction). I paid like $250 bucks for it. It was totally rust free (excellent chassis), had literally no options... it was a hard-top with V6, SE (whatever that came with), radio delete, and a 5-Speed. But it had a blown motor and it was missing about half the body panels. But similar to Patrick's situation, I swapped part for part from the manual Fiero to my automatic Fiero... replacing or refurbishing some key parts as I went along. If you do something like that, it REALLY helps to have a spare car with which to take the parts from.

Unfortunately, parts cars are getting harder and harder to find.

I eventually did the opposite haha. Bought an automatic no aircon manual mirrors 2.8V6 and now it's 4spd Muncie, aircon and power mirrors 3.8 L67 lol. The A/C conversion was labour intensive.

I appreciate the perspective, Richard. To your point, there seem to be a lot of Fieros out there that are coming on and off the market at any given time. Probably best to wait it out.
