How do I clean out the mouse-nest area under the hood? (Page 1/1)

Hi Fiero folks! I want to clean out the resister and blower area (and AC ductwork) under the front hood - I'm pretty sure there are leaves and mouse-nest material stuck in there) What tools will I need, what will I need to loosen or remove, and about how long should it take? Thanks in advance!

Remove the fan motor. There are about 5 or 6 screws. I think they're 10mm. Also remove the resistor just to the passenger side of the motor. Clean out any debris lodged in the coils of the resistor. That's where the fires start. If you have small hands you can reach through the motor opening and feel to the passenger side for any debris lodged against the heater or ac coils. If you have a shop vac with a small hose, you might be able to push it in to suck out any small pieces of debris you can't remove by hand. Afterward, you may get some trash that will blow out of your inside vents.

To give you some locations:
Blower location and resistor location. Picture shows bulkhead without A/C

Resistor removed and you can see this person almost had a huge fire. If you have A/C the accumulator will make it a slightly tighter fit for your hand as you can see the accumulator on the right.

http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/141959.html Heat/AC box cleaning, again...

If have mice, don't clean that in a garage etc. Mice etc carry germs & worse that can put many in the Hospital. The animal(s) maybe gone put nest & dropping can still carry whatever then you stir that during cleaning.

Wear tight fitting N95 or better mask & use brushes etc not a "shop vac" to get most of the garbage out/off. Not KN95! You want to see mask is NIOSH rated.
Avoid even vacuum cleaners claiming HEPA Filters as often leaks or have other problems or just expensive to clean that.
