I believe it can be seen in the lower right corner of this photo. Mine's not as pristine looking as yours.

Thanks, Patrick. I have a bracket there that looks similar to yours but also has a clip on it that holds those electrical wire bundles in place (zip tied on yours). I think the bracket in my pictures goes somewhere else. Additionally, I think if this was the bracket in your picture, we could see the "tail" of it bolted to the water pump, but I don't see that in your picture.

You don't see the "tail" because it's hidden behind the wiring harness.
This is the orientation when installed...
I'll go look at mine in a short while, just to double-check.
[EDIT] Yep, that's exactly where it goes.

I think the harness should have some sort of clip taped to it, then it clips to the bracket…. I’ll see if I have a pic when I rebuilt mine.. Well, I didn’t have any bracket like that…..hmmm[This message has been edited by PhatMax (edited 06-20-2024).]

It's missing on my car..... Of course I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing!
I'll just pretend it was left off for weight reduction.

It's possibly a shield in the event that one of the belts begins to fray or breaks. It might keep the belt from striking a wiring harness or the oil pressure system.

Indeed!
The official GM part number 10036499 was called SHIELD, f/pipe {fuel pipe} (with air condition), for Pontiac Fiero cars in the U.S.

Come on... give me some credit, eh!

So... I think we can pretty well be sure where exactly that bracket goes. What its purpose is, I have no real idea. Possibly as some sort of protection for the wiring harness in the event of a belt shredding/breaking?
