Hi All,
I purchased a set of the higher-grade GT sail windows from The Fiero Store. I installed them per the instructions and they both dropped off into my driveway a week later. I worked with Rob at the Fiero Store and his contact at 3M. They sent new tape and suggested I get a bottle of 3M adhesion promoter. Once again they fell off in my driveway a few weeks later. I only drove the car once, so there's not stress other than sitting in my carport.
Has anyone run into this? Any suggestions on a way to attache these short of epoxy? I hate to have no option for removal down the road.

just buy 3m vhb tape that's 1 inch wide and clamp it for a few hours to keep them properly in place. do also scratch up the surface for the tape with 80 grit as it sticks much much better like that

I followed this and my windows have stuck fine through 90 degree days for a few weeks. one of my sail panels is a custom cut (badly) replacement made by yours truly. that one is stuck on with windshield butyl tape and seems fine

Thank you both. I actually followed the instructions in that video... twice. On the second attempt 3M sent new tape and a bottle of adhesion promoter. Still fell out.
Do either of you know if the tape that the Fiero store uses is VHB variety? Mine had blue protective layer and I see the VHB on Amazon has red. Is the red stronger?
With regard to scuffing, do you mean the window or the car? Both times they fell off the tape stayed on the car side, and I really hate to scuff the window.

Years ago on my '86 GT, I used the two-sided 3M foam tape and then filled in all around the entire perimeter of each panel (used lots on the leading edge) with black automotive silicone sealer. They aren't ever coming off!

Is the tape not sticking to the car or to the sail panel?
I've replaced my sail panels with the "lower" grade ones from the Fiero Store and have had no issues.
How are you cleaning the surfaces before sticking down the tape? (Some people use oily WD-40 which seems like a horrible choice.) I used 3M "General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner" (p/n 08987) to clean the metal surface (I only wiped the sail panel plastic with a cloth).
I had to do a lot of scraping to remove all of the crud from the old tape and detritus.

ah. in that case buy the red vhb tape from 3m and if that ain't good enough then just glue the window to the tape with clear construction adhesive or something. I use the red tape to hold spoilers together or to hold on those moonroof wind guards on unprepared paint and it stuck for a few months before it got torn off by a buddy because it looked loose. also used it to weather proof a vinyl window to a air conditioner (mini split) pass through plate and that lasted over 3 years with birds hitting it regularly because forest. a picture may be helpful to see if there's a coating on the sail panels or something
