Is there a way to change the battery without having to reset the computer by driving it for a number of miles?

Yes, by hooking up another battery in parallel using jumper cables, or by hooking it up to the cigarette lighter.

I have an ill wife that can’t be left alone so I don’t have the time to take it for a run.

In a Fiero? I'm not aware of having to reset the ECU in a Fiero but, hey, I'm definitely no mechanical genius.
I believe the ECU "learns'" as it the car is driven. Perhaps someone else (Ogre, want to step in here?) can offer some clarity. The only thing that I'm aware of on a stock Fiero would be the radio presets. In that case the tool that Cliff and Richard referred to works for me.[This message has been edited by Mike in Sydney (edited 06-25-2024).]

Sorry to hear about your wife's ill health, but there'd be no need for you to "take it for a run" just for the ECU to relearn anything. That'll simply occur the next time you drive the car at your own leisure. In the meantime, there's absolutely no issue.

If the battery is dead, ~ < 10-11v, The ECM etc has little lost any data stored.
Can try to change in the car & connected but watch charger amps. max should 6-10 even less as dead battery often is Completely Dead w/ Dead Cell(s). If battery get hot or makes sounds then stop.

I disconnect my battery all the time, ECM learns in ten minutes, no problems.
