Dash / slash interior panel overlays - Vinyl printing... (Page 1/1)

Gonna put this here in technical

We are well advanced in vinyl printing ( I think )...?

Is it possible to have the instrument cluster and gauges, shift console 88 Dot matrix pattern vinyl printed?

Reason I bring this up is that I am either fortunate or at an disadvantaged position of having a 300K kilometer Fiero which even to me is still in exceptional condition, but in places it is showing it's age , the shift console for starters, it's not worn completely out, but it looks kind of worn.

Can the Dot matrix pattern for each cluster etc panel be vinyl printed?

I understand there is a lot of variables such as what was the original colors? can that tight pattern be replicated? How do we do it so it lines up properly?

Something I am seriously interested in and am not shy on spending money on.

yes. scan it in and have it printed on vinyl wrap. also the original color was something around a dark Grey and black matrix at least for the stuff I've found. the pattern once scanned in and restored will look correct and can be lined up by making tabs that wrap around the part
easiest way I would normally do this would actually be to paint it but I'm kind of a masochist when it comes to amount of effort needed for a shitty result *AHEM the gt*
I recommend to just vinyl print it unless you want to sit there and make stencils

As a thought if 'replacing' the GM part: Look on eBay OR send a PM to Larry Hubbert

Yes they could be printed & cut...

Exact material mater hugely.
Interior Temps hits 150-200°F when parked outside.
UV is a problem too & part of why the seats fabric etc fade & turn to bits even when no-one uses P-side seat.

Most vinyl &/or the adhesives on them Fail, often soon, for those & more reasons.
Example: Someone cleaning the car can cause problems too as many cleaners/solvents/"protection" products either attack the vinyl, the printed layer or the "glue" at edges @ first.
"Glass Cleaner" can all kinds of chemicals like Several Alcohols, Ammonia, Minor Acids like Vinegar, etc.
God knows what is in Armor All & others besides what listed in (M)SDS & often that Doc won't help you much.

Realistically, a good decal shop would only need to scan a tiny section of the best looking portion of your trim in order to make a large matrix sheet. They'll take the measurements of your trim, multiply the tiny scan they took, and overlay that on the trim before cutting it out. The issue is finding a decal shop that will do that without breaking the bank. Most of the time, the customer pays a high price for the basic creation of the files. Then from there, the decal shop saves it as a template and the decals are cheap for everyone else after you.

All great advice^^ Where I live there's no one printing vinyl, perhaps I can find a place in the city and leave them one of the broken ones from my collection, the pattern is still really good on those, of course.....

I guess no one on here is offering such a thing?
