shift cable issues (Page 1/1)

put in adjustable select cable from the fiero store and it's been nothing but issues. it had to be drilled to fit onto the shifter and the sheathing looked melted partially a week after Install which is weird since it's ran right next to the other adjustable cable and that one is fine. it fully seized up today and finally got it to move again so I could get home and it's taking both hands to get it into first or reverse and I'm getting fed up with this crap.
nothing is touching it. nothing was getting hot near it and the other cable WAS TOUCHING THE MANIFOLD AND IS COMPLETELY FINE
how does that make any sense? I run it in the stock location and it melts the sheathing but the cable next to it that was touching the manifold is and was completely fine
edit:less annoyed now since I found my good spare 4 speed cables but like still. I hope they warranty the cable or at least give me half off a new one since the select cable is the only one that had an issue. on a side note are v6 and i4 cables the same?

yep don't buy those. the adjustable 4 speed cables litterally melt at 200 degrees. I tested this with an oven since my select cable was just that screwed up and could not be returned. stock doesn't melt until 450 so yeah. lesson learned being a cheapskate is sometimes Beneficial

oh yeah for sure. actually figured out the fiero store cables are too short so during driving they regularly rested on the exhaust and cooling pipes. so I used some 84 4 speed cables (14 inches longer than theirs and 6 inches more than stock) and that cable isn't a problem
