Transmission Swap (Page 1/1)

My 84 4:10 trans bit the dust and punched a hole in itself the other day. Transmission availability is rather poor where I am; my question is would an 86 4sp bolt up to my 84 iron duke? I believe I would also need to buy new cables, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

It's 100% identical. Take the transmission and use everything from the 84 if still good.

Your other option would be an Isuzu 5-spd. That's the route I took years ago with my '84.

you know how annoying it is that I have one sitting on a shelf litterally right this moment. though I think I'm gonna make some braces to try and save the few remaining ones.
also I'm pretty sure you don't live in a few state radius

oh also no. keep the 84 cables and route them away from the exhaust and such using the extra length. they are my current preferred cables since they don't melt like the fierostore cables and are ~10 inches longer than the 86 cables so they really get out of the way on a v6
