1984 Iron Duke Sniper EFI Install (Page 1/1)

I have started the integration of a Holley 550-552 Sniper EFI retrofit. The original ecu would hold the idle at 1800 - 2000 rpm, and the past three owners could not resolve the issue. I too could not fix the problem, and believe it was the ecu itself. I have had very good luck with my sniper ( Sniper 1 first gen ) on my 383 sbc that I built 4 years ago, and thought it would be a fun project to migrate this Fiero to one as well. I believe it was originally designed for Ford 6 cylinder engines, but the approximate size the Fiero should be happy with. Okay, with that out of the way, my question is, has anyone else tried, and accomplished this? I am needing to reverse the throttle cable throw, ....the arm on the original throttle body pointed left, ...this Holley points right, ...and the throttle cable connection is coming up from underneath. Again, before I go off the deep end with some high dollar Mancini, or Lokar linkage kit, I was curious if someone else has run into this, and how they may have solved it.
Very neat forum here, lot's of good information posted!
Thank for any replies!

Someone literally installed one, and had really great success... let me see if I can find the link.

EDIT: Here's the link: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/144288.html

The guy's name is Snyderman... he ran into some issues early on, but was able to get it running and says it's been the best thing for his Fiero in the entire world.

EDIT #2: This is the point where Synderman comes back into the thread (4 years later) saying everything is fantastic and reveals why... https://www.fiero.nl/forum/...HTML/144288.html#p24

Bottom line, he got a custom tune for it. He didn't have to take it to a shop, but asked someone named Scott Clark. This appears to be his website, and you can very likely (quite honestly), ask him to send you Snyderman's Fiero 2m4 programming: https://realtuners.com/remote/

Since he's already done this for a Fiero... it would probably be super easy for him to literally just send you (for $$$) what he's already programmed for Snyderman.

If you don't mind, I'd really like to see some pictures as you go through the process.

Fantastic! I had read that post before, ..a few months ago, .....and thought this would be a dead topic. Thanks for the info, ...I have pm'd Snyderman, and am anxious to read his reply. I too have acquired a Holley 3739, ..they are QUITE Ellusive!! Mine is new in box, ....never installed, ...never seen fuel, ...power, ...just my hands briefly! I will be selling it now as I've started this Sniper install. Currently, I have the adapter plate made, and the sniper is installed, ..fuel lines ran, O2 sensor installed, coolant temp sensor installed, and power temporarily routed to it. I want to route the wiring in such a way as to reduce exposure to any existing wiring that will induce emi issues. I was able to start and begin to tune my first sniper myself, ....and with the info posted on forums, ...but signed up, and attended some Holley EFI training classes at their Bowling Green KY address. That was VERY informative, I learned alot, and confirmed alot of thoughts I had regarding installation, and tuning methods. I will tidy up the scene of the crime, and shoot some pictures of what I have so far, and, more as the project continues. Now, I'm having to either relocate the throttle cable to the other side of the throttle body, or, fabricate some linkage to pull from the other side. I have a starter to replace now as well, ....I got it to crank over the engine a couple times, ....then nothing, ...but after a few moderate taps with a long steel punch I had, started cranking again. ....time for a new starter!
Again, thank for the info, and I'll be back with pictures.

Make sure you replace it with the newer style gear-reduction starter. It's less than half the weight! There have been many threads here discussing this. Here is one, and make sure to also click on the (several) links within that thread.

Will look into that, thanks!
