It looked like it came out with the distributor, how can that be, or is it something that was there I didn't notice..

I've never seen anything like this before. The only thing I think it COULD possibly be is that SOME distributor CAPS have a little window where you can slide open a metal tab. I THINK this is to allow someone to perform a dwell check on a points distributor. I've only ever had a couple of points cars before... and they were all VWs. But a lot of distributor caps still come with that window... so maybe that's where it came from? The Fiero distributor cap comes from a design that at one time had these windows. I had an Iron Duke distributor cap with one of these windows back in the 90s... no idea why it had it.

It kinda freaked me out, it really appeared like it was coming out with the distributor, like it was a key.
Good thing I saw it and stopped, grabbed it with a magnet.
