Big Brake Options (Page 1/1)

He guys I know its been discussed a lot and maybe you can send me a link. So we have a 1986 and plan to do a 88 cradle swap. Were also going to run 17" wheels so want at least 12" or larger rotors to fill up the wheel opening. I was looking at the 12" Corvette swap or the 13" rotor kit Fieroguru sells. Both seem to be based off the 1988 hubs/spindles. Would the best way to make this work on a 1986 would be to turn off the brake disc and make hubs?

Try to keep everything "Unsprung" as light as possible- tires, wheels, etc.

A guy on here (Sluppy123) makes aluminum hubs and also caliper adapters to install 88 front calipers on 85-87 spindles....the hubs save a bunch of weight- basically did this swap- including 12" vette discs- and did not gain any weight.

I put Corvette C4 calipers front and back on my 1987 GT using 12 inch rotors. I have built the car up as a street-legal track rat. I bought adapters (and front hubs) from Brian Sanburn. I also had to plumb in a Wilwood brake proportioning valve to reduce rear brake pressure.

I had first tried C6 front calipers with 13 inch rotors, but they didn't quite fit my 17 wheels.

If you are just after a killer look, C6 calipers with 13 inch rotors are definitely the way to go. If you are looking for racetrack performance however, they are probably too much front brake to balance front/rear properly. They'd be fine on the street. Another cosmetic advantage of C6 front calipers is that they have the word "Corvette" in big letters cast into their side. C4 calipers look pretty generic.

I still have the C6 front calipers that I bought on eBay and couldn't return. I would happily sell for $300 plus shipping if you want them. They are from a wrecked 2006 Corvette convertible.

Hello

I went with 13" Wilwood rotor brakes integrated with vette calipers. I purchased mine form West Coast Fiero about 5 years ago. I have them on both of my Fiero replicas for the look and the stopping performance combined with F23/SC 3800 motor swaps. I was very happy with the products only downfall is it took WCF a long time to send my brakes. Once I got them was very happy with the outcome. They were kind of pricy, but I figured if you are spending big money on engine and transmission upgrades brakes are just as important. Good luck with your upgrade.

BTW I would like to have a big brake kit with a functioning E brake.

I have guru's 13" kit on my V8 Formula and I completely agree.
