Loud clunk when taking foot off gas, CV axle? (Page 1/1) Blitz54 SEP 11, 09:53 PM Hey peeps. Been driving the fiero all summer, and last week I noticed a clunking happening fairly consistently. It mostly happens in first gear. Accelerating the clunk doesn't happen, but when I take my foot off the gas pedal to shift or coast, theres a loud clunk in the back. It sounds like it's in the lower right side. Sometimes it doesn't happen, but it usually does. It shouldn't be motor mounts or dog bone, I replaced those and I'm 99% sure they're still good. I haven't done the cradle bushings, but I imagine that should have a clunk noise when accelerating too if it were them, right? Also, all the replacement options for the cv axles show 33 outer spline, and 34 inner. But a few forum posts have said it's 33 outer, but only 32 inner? I have an 86 4 speed V6. It happened to me.... One bolt came out and the other one loosened just enough to let the caliper rock back and forth every time I accelerated or stepped on the brake. It was quite a loud clunk though. fierofool SEP 12, 10:15 AM Check the torque shock to cradle bolts at the front of the engine near the oil filter. That was the source of my clunk. If I was going slow (like in traffic) it made a clunk, every time I got off the gas.
