Hey guys, just want to make sure I'm ordering the right thing... I did a few searches and found some good links, but didn't get all the questions answered.
I want to replace both battery cables for my daughter's 1985 Fiero 2m4 SE. I found a link where Ogre responded and said that he didn't recommend using the factory method of routing the positive battery cable behind the waterpump pulley, etc... which I thought was interesting. I agree with this, and would like to route it along the firewall (but will see what works best once I get it).
Some questions:
- What gage do I need? 2 or 4 gage? - How long does it need to be? (I tossed out the old one, it was really trashed and surprised there wasn't a fire ... I think it was 35"? - Side post, but is there any specific to it, short or long bolt, etc.?
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I already have a negative battery cable from the Fiero store. I'm just looking for a RED replacement cable, like what was stock / factory.
Thanks!!![This message has been edited by 82-T/A [At Work] (edited 09-14-2024).]

yea 35 inches sounds correct but probably get 40 or more. I recommend buying a set of copper jumper cables (decent ones) and the bolt on or crimp on ends to make a custom cable. you can also just buy the 2 gauge wire to make the cable but generally jumper cables are the cheapest short bolt side post but be wary since most of the bolt on ends need a longer one

BTW - I ordered a 4 gauge SGX custom cable from Custom Battery Cables LLC in Arizona and I'm very happy with the product.... https://custombatterycables.com/ https://legacy.custombatter...-made-battery-cable/

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.
I used Maltego, and found a super-rare GM (red) side-post 4-gauge battery cable that's 32"s, and has the extra lead with the correct bung attached on the end. I'm hoping this will fit since it's only 32"... but since I don't plan to wrap it around the water pump... maybe I can still make it fit.
If it doesn't work, I'll use that custom site you posted... thank you!!!
