Speedometer not working (Page 1/1)

Hi,
I have 86 SE 2.8 L, 4 Speed manual, my speedometer stopped working,
I checked VSS on table, connected to driller, measured VAC, show voltage (if I remember right, it was approximately 10 VAC Max and changed per the velocity
I measured connectivity from VSS connector (YEL PPL/WHT wires), to cluster ends, it was OK,
I tested AC V at the wires ends, at the side of the cluster, with car running at approximately 10 mph, zero!
I took the connector off the VSS and connected the probe directly to the VSS out puts, car at 10 mph, zero as well...

Manual doesn't explain what to do at that case

Thanks,
when taking out the VSS, should the gear be attached to it? if it is not, what should I do?

YES! The gear should be attached to it, I've heard it's a possibility for it to fall off the end, I don't know where in the trans it can go, whether you could just fish it out, or if you might need to remove and split the trans to get to it.

If you've had the engine started/car driven with the loose gear, I would imagine it's gotten chewed up and spat out several times by now, hopefully hasn't caused any damage internally to the trans.
