Sub (Page 1/1)

So I’m currently in the process of adding a subwoofer to my 1986 GT, but I haven’t found a good spot to pass the power wiring through the firewall. It’s 8 gauge, so it’s not tiny to try to squeeze through. Anyone have a good spot it can come through with a minimum (preferably none) of cutting?

Thanks!

Couple of things that we need to know first:

1 - Your battery is still in the factory location, right?
2 - Where are you planning on mounting the subwoofer... in the factory spot (under the passenger side dash)?

Battery is in the factory location for the 86 GT. The sub is just a little underseat one mounted behind the passenger seat. Previous owner pulled out the stock sub when he installed an aftermarket head unit, but I’ve already got all the RCA run.

I can run the wiring to the driver’s side and through the firewall behind the airbox if there’s a good spot there.

Honestly, if you're just looking for power, you can drill a hole into the rear firewall... just get a rubber grommet to feed the cable through for water / noise, and you should be fine. There's nothing between the firewall and the inside. Just make sure that where you're drilling, you're not drilling into the coolant cross-over pipe or the wiring harness or something.
