I wanted to post this question on a new thread though I have another thread going with the brake job and wondered
If we did make a change on the master cylinder we noticed that the autozone duralast unit that we have is a reman not new and would prefer new and found a centric and a raybestos and wanted to know which is preferred or has a better track record with those in the forum
If there is a different brand that is a new master cylinder please suggest
We were considering the wildwood with the same bore size
????

the wilwood has a better chance of working ive had good luck with both raybestos and centric but I'm actually having a similar issue to you on an 86 and so far haven't found the problem but ended up gathering 3 spares for the proportioning valve

Have been using the AC Delco Master Cylinders but when I compare them they appear identical to the imported Chinese brands. Can't say for sure but it appears that only the boxes are different. Wilwood looks different has a good reputation at three times the price but where are they manufactured?. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. Well, first of all, I’m not an expert on this subject and I agree with Dennis's comment.
When I completely serviced the brake system, I rebuilt the original Moraine/Delco Brake Master Cylinder with a Genuine GM Rebuild Kit.
Normally I avoid "Made in China" in my Fiero, but if you must use an aftermarket master cylinder, I brought a Centric Brake Master Cylinder as a spare....------------------ Original Owner of a Silver '88 GT Under 'Production Refurbishment' @ 136k Miles

if the cars that these master cylinders were coming off at say three five or even 7 years old I guess reman would probably be ok, but we are talking 40 year old cars and the idea of reman of potentially that old a part is not an enticing one.
given the problems that I am having on this brake job I thought perhaps to insist on new to eliminate the 40 year old aspect and who knows how many times a potential unit has been reman'd and turned over
(what I was taught as a teen so many years ago in vocational auto mechanic training was that there was limit to how many times you could "put a kit in a" master or wheel cylinder and over time as you tried to hone to smooth the surface if you took too much metal surface away the seals could potentially not make a good seal)
so when searching for new the only brands as I said are centric and raybestos and of course wildwood. I dismissed the wildwood idea back when I purchased their combination valve as I thought too radical a departure. But now I am thinking if its the same bore size and has dual fluid compartments and the line adapting is eliminated as it should go directly to their proportion combination valve.
because it is still the weekend I would call wildwood support before anything to get their feedback on the application and best part number, yes more expensive but at this point because of the difficulties with this brake job it is beyond that being the prime consideration.
also they may be made in china and I dont know if a us made unit is even available by anyone, (and that is more a geopolitical discussion for others at another time and discussion forum) but again at least new and not reman'd and if they are built to specification ?
if anyone knows of a new master cylinder made int he usa please mention
again that is my thinking
again thoughts and feedback[This message has been edited by Signupacct (edited 09-22-2024).]

I put a Dorman master in mine, works fine so far. If you're really worried about it, I'd go Wilwood. They're best of the best these days.
