I have an 85 Fiero without AC with a 78 amp alternator that needs replacing. Surprisingly I'm finding a 94 amp replacement alternator is cheaper than the 78 amp. I don't think there is any reason I can't install a 94 amp alternator in a no AC Fiero. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

Not necessary for my needs. Thanks anyway.

It may not be "necessary", but it's a dead simple upgrade to a superior alternator.

I'd like to echo what Patrick said, the CS130 alternator is vastly superior. It runs cooler, runs quieter, and is more reliable across the board... likely the same cost. GM switched to them in 1988 anyway.
But to answer your question, yes... the higher amperage alternator will work just fine in your car. It's only the available amps that it can provide (if needed) and does not necessarily mean that it will be producing that full time.

Go with the Cs130, there's a reason they came on the 88 Fieros, drop in upgrade, with Rodney's wiring adapter, cheaper than many of the original units, and more availability/easier to come by if needed, as well as being more efficient, longer life, and all the other benefits, if you're already modifying the cars option list (alternator amperage is a listed option on the RPO sticker) you might as well go for the actual upgrade, not the interior half upgrade.

To tell the truth guys, I only want the cheapest option because I'm selling the car. If I were keeping it I would be following your advice. Going by prices on RockAuto and the additional cost of the adapter it would probably cost me another 50 bucks. Thanks for your help

Wrecking yard. GM used the same alternator on 100s of their vehicles.
