I’ve got my tank dropped (85 v6) to replace my fuel pump and restore the tank and sending unit. I know the procedure to restore the tank, but I’m curious about how to safely get the light layer of rust off the sending unit without damaging it.
Would I just disconnect the wires and let it soak in evaporust? Or could that damage the resistor in the level sending unit? And how would I prevent flash rusting afterwards?

I know, I’m just trying to not drop too much on it. I’m in college right now. But I might anyway, the rust is inside the lines and I just don’t want to risk it.

Is this a project hobby car or a daily driver? Great for a hobby collectible but not a good choice for a daily driver. Rust inside the steel gas lines isn't good,You could try soaking in a rust remover but those lines carry pressure and if they are rusted too thin they might rupture. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite.
