Looking at a Wankel (Page 1/1)

This may sound a bit silly but I really like the BRAP-BRAP-BRAP of the Wankel engines and I'm curious of one that may fit in a fiero but still have a good amount of horsepower nothing crazy though I'm not worried about a budget just curious of what would work

The exhaust on the rotary wants to occupy the same space as the transaxle differential and passenger axle shaft.

In 20 years no one has taken the effort to work through this first (of many) issues.

You can probably do this swap but with a lot of work, make a header for instead of the original manifold which does not fit the transverse engine and an engine/trans adapter the rest is similar I think engine mount, electronics etc.

I think the answer is no... but are there any instances of a Wankel rotary engine being used in a transverse configuration?

I ask because (as suggested below), this would solve a lot of the problems you might have of needing to customize things...

I don't believe that trying to swap a Wankel engine is worth the trouble when so many bolt in options are available. Also Wankel engines have a rather poor record of reliability. Over a dozen different engines have been swapped in Fieros. I would make a list of the features that you are looking for and go from there. You may wish to consider cost, work involved, mileage, weight, reliability, appearance, sound, availability of upgrade parts/modifications, the type of driving that you will do, and where the power band is on the RPM scale.

You must be relatively young. Many (most?) dinosaurs such as myself think that Wankels sound like crap.

Given up on the idea of a 3800?

Josh, if you want 400-500hp out of a smallish motor, then your best bet is to swap in a Turbo 2.4 VVT EcoTec from a Solstice or Saturn Sky. There's plenty of GM transmissions that will bolt to it (like a 6-Speed manual), all of which will fit in a Fiero and give you both reliability, and the performance you're looking for.

Nah first I am just gonna leave the 3800 stock and second I am just looking at some options
