Coolant crossover pipe (Page 1/1)

I am doing a 3.4 swap, 86, 4 speed, and my coolant crossover pipe is rusted and full of holes. I need a new one and I saw Rodney has some for $140 plus shipping BUT that is a bit out of budget for me for a chunk of pipe. It seems to be 1 1/4" OD and 40-42 inches long. Can I just grab some silicon radiator hose and two hose barbs and just connect it across? Or maybe one of those stainless universal radiator hose kits, they are $35 on ebay for 48inches. I don't care about it being original, just functional. Thanks!

I would imagine some silicon hoses and some hose barb adapters could get the job done but that might be just as costly as a new coolant pipe. If the budget is tight put out a call to the Fiero parts dealers and price a good used pipe. If you have an exhaust shop near, they may be able to bend one for you.

I priced it out and the 48" universal kit and two hose barbs with clamps was $40, shipped. If it works its worth it.

my solution was a bit getto. i went and found the ends i wanted from a chevy trucks waterpump(i think it was a duramax or something.) in the junkyard and went to an exhaust shop to have one made exactly like the spare original and coated it myself with Gylptol to prevent any corrosion
you could do the entire thing yourself with a bucket of sand, a tube and a mig welder and have it look exactly perfect

Yeah, I looked at getting some aluminum or stainless tube and just having the ends flared for a hose. In the end I decided a cheap universal stainless radiator hose kit and some hose barbs might hopefully work. Like David Frieberger says, "Don't get it right, just getting running".

good mentality but remember to not add more points of leaking or failure, stock tends to loosen on that tube over time so keep a good eye on it now

Yeah, if it fails I will buy some radiator hose by the foot and just stick that in. I almost did that this time but it was $25 more than what I spent and the universal thing is at least chinesium brand stainless steel.
