Right turn signal issues (Page 1/1)
tthrock APR 08, 03:50 PM
I have a well used 1985 Fierro with a six-cylinder in it.
When I turn on the left turn signal, I hear the clicking, and the lights blink. No light comes on the dash though. When I turn on the right turn signal, I do not hear any clicking, and the lights do not blink. And of course, no light on the dash.
Ideas?

More problems to come, lol

Sounds like a faulty indicator bulb in the display ? Do you have the same issue when the hazard lights are on?

For the right side, try replacing all of your turn signal bulbs. You may have a bad bulb or corroded contacts in the socket.

The front turn signal sockets are a known problem for corrosion...

do the outside lights come on?

Since there is no ticking sound inside the car when using the right blinker , would there be a relay that could be causing the issue? The left blinker makes the tick sound as it should and it works. Would bad bulbs or sockets cause the sound to stop?

The left side blinkers work properly inside and out. The right side doesn’t make a sound inside the car (tick, tick, tick, etc) and doesn’t turn on the lights on the outside.
When I turn on the hazard lights they work.

There is one "relay" that controls both left and right, one at a time, if there is not enough current flowing through it (dead bulbs, bad ground, bad wires/socket, it won't click or run.

Sounds like either the multifunction switch in the column or a wire coming from the column.

This means the turn flasher is good {maybe not as I learned below} because it uses the same voltage path for the right-side blinkers.

The hazard uses another flasher and by-passes the turn flasher

If ALL THE BULBS {in & out} are flashing when the hazard switch is ON - this means that ALL the circuits/paths are GOOD.

Note: The Hazard Switch also by-passes the Left and Right Turn Switches

The only other circuits/paths are the Left/Right Switches...

The multifunction switch {Turn Hazard Switch Assembly} has THREE Switches:
Left Turn Switch, Right Turn Switch and the Hazard Switch

Both Turn Switches are Double-Pole Double-Throw and I bet your Right Turn Switch is dead...

If you have the service manual; the schematic is under "Exterior Lights: Turn/Hazard/Etc." at the back {Section 8A}

EDIT
I saw/read a long turn signal thread which the hazard worked; one signal will work; the other signal didn't. The problem was solved by replacing the turn flasher!

As the turn flasher is cheap, my suggestion is to try replacing the turn flasher to see if it is your problem or not...

IF replacing the turn flasher didn't help; the next step is to clean/test the Turn Hazard Switch Assembly CONNECTOR
