WTB 1988 V6 manual project car near me in California (Page 1/2)
TVS DEC 30, 04:44 PM
Hey Guys so I bought a clean 1986 GT with 68k miles to build with my son. I knew it had some front end damage but after taking the bumper off its a little worse than I would like. So now since I was planning to do a 88 cradle swap I would rather find a 1988 project with a bad engine and use our car for parts. Looking for a solid 1988 V6 manual ideally on the west coat but open to out of state. Thanks Tom

Did you see *this* 1988 on Craigslist at San Rafael?

That is interesting. I favor the fastbacks more but also like the coupes. I am well endowed with my 88GT T top but not well endowed with cash. I would buy that after dickering on the price.

Are the wood grain surrounds stock ?

TVS, if you want, I have an '88 Fiero GT I have title on and can give to you for buying Cliff a couple beers. The GT is white, but not pretty. No damage though. It died with a spun bearing/rod kock and has been sitting long enough to be frozen now, but it's an automatic. You would need to swap over your '86 manual bits and mod the harness a little. A number of people have done this swap.

Here's a link I found on that subject:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/...L/000077-3.html#p113

...and a parts swap list from that same link:

Converting to a manual requires all these parts from your donor.
tranny
axles
shifter assembly
2 shifting cables
clutch pedal assembly
hydraulic clutch line
master cylinder
slave cylinder
flywheel
clutch set <---- buy new - no reason using a worn one
Plastic frame with boot to cover shifter assembly

I'm in So Cal. You would need to bring a trailer.

Yeah I saw the yellow one owner is out of town so waiting for more pics but he does seem to have a high asking price and zooming in on the nose looks like it might have had damage and poor repair to the radiator support . And yes plan B would be to convert a automatic our car is a 4 speed so would also want to put a 5 speed in it. So ideally finding a donor 88 V6 manual would give us everything we need to make one solid car.

BowtieBob, that is an amazing offer. Thank you. You are an inspiration. I am also one who does not want to make money from any Fiero stuff I may want to let go. Just as puppies I might allow to be re-homed, I want them to go to a good home. I would want the new owner to keep your Fiero 100% stock.

I don't deserve to ask if I might have it because it would just sit, but I do want it. Then again, it would not be scrapped or parted out.

Hmm, , if the stars align ..... damn the Wife, full speed ahead !

My offer to TVS was because he was doing this project with his son. I think that's great. Personally I grew up fatherless so I have pretty strong feelings for this kind of thing.

TVS, Good luck finding what you are looking for. Incidentally, the Muncie 4-speed is a solid tranny from what I have heard.

The GT was originally my daily driver, but now it's my spare as I finish my other GT with a 4T60 overdrive automatic, something you might consider if the Getrag doesn't materialize. That '88 cradle on ebay was actually mine from the swap. I promised it to Keith Huff who did all the heavy lifting on the tranny swap. He knows Fieros like nobody's business.

What paused these 4T60 swaps in the Fiero community is the lack of speedo housings that mechanically mate to the overdrive tranny AND to the Fiero electronics. I solved that problem with an adapter that allows you to use the original speedo sensor from your TH125. I'll be posting that in another thread and link to it from here.

Cliffw, keep an eye on the mall. You are in Texas, I am in Cali.

I missed that but it is special. My father was good at navigating tools but taught me nothing. He was also abusive so I consider myself as growing up fatherless (since made up for).

Perhaps you may not know about 82T/A At Work's involvement with his daughter and teaching her how to rebuild a Fiero. We can all be proud of her.

I will. I don't need an excuse to come to California.
