WTB and where to find Rodneys Master/Slave Cylinders (Page 1/1)
musicmansam JUN 08, 01:19 PM
Hi all! I am looking to replace the both master and slave cylinders on my 88 as I believe they are still factory. I tried to check the master and it does not show any leaks which is great, but the slave looks to be in pretty tough shape. I am not sure how to measure the travel of it accurately, but it visually does not seem to travel as far as videos I have seen online. I have troubles getting into first and reverse, and feel like I need to press the clutch pretty far in to do so. Shifting is better when I go into 2 before 1, and 5 before R, but first is still tough. The shop I recently took it to for a fluids flush says its the clutch, which may also be true, but I feel it may be a combination of these things...

I am hoping to just replace them both with Rodney's parts as I know they will last a long time and help either way, but they are no longer available on his site. Anyone know where I can find them? Thanks in advance!

Edit: I have a 5spd getrag!

-Sam

From Rodney's site, it appears that he had them custom made by another manufacture (who went out of business). So you will have to rely on someone have a set purchased but never used. I recently had to replace my Rodney clutch master due to leaking from the rear seal. I thought at one time Rodney made a rebuild kit for his masters, but doesn't appear to be the case. Too bad as it worked well, but will need to roll the dice on a parts store replacement.

This is definitely was I was hoping wasn't the case hahaha. I hope someone will offer me theirs, but knowing how coveted they are, I'm sure it would not come cheap sadly. I may try out a parts store one, or even get Rodney's rebuild kit for the slave as I think that is more a culprit than anything else. Something is better than nothing, right?

I don't believe there was anything special about his master. The slave he sold had a double seal which is a huge upgrade IMO. I did buy his two seal slave.

The double seal on the slave is definitely one of my selling points, but also the fact that both were cast aluminum which I believe more durable and resists corrosion much more than the stock/normal steel ones, so I would hopefully not have to worry about it for awhile. But hopefully I can at least find that seal somewhere to put onto a new one!

Thank you for those brands and part numbers!! I will be digging into those, and its good to know that others have tried and had reasonable success so far.

Schaeffler LuK LMC501 is made of cast iron
Dorman CS37794 is made of cast iron and swap the piston with Rodney's

On Amazon:
Schaeffler LuK LMC501 @ $30 'prime'
Dorman CS37794 @ $45 'prime'

BTW - Install the slave first (w/o master) and then bleed the master on the bench before installing it in the car
