WTB: two rear 88 Calipers - ASAP (Page 1/2)
Trinten JUN 30, 10:22 AM
EDIT: Found what I needed. Thanks to Vintage Nut and Rick for the leads!

I need a good set of rear 88 calipers ASAP.
The Fiero Store is out of stock (took three days to find that out).

The set we have are seized up, using the tool to try to roll back the piston, it woul only moves a little bit each way, so we suspect the internals are toast (boots were wrecked on one, missing entirely on the other).

So if you have a set that are in good working order with good boots, please let me know. We'll pay 100 per caliper plus shipping.

If no one has that, also looking for options on the easiest/fastest rear brake swap on an 88 that maintains the parking brake. I've done some reading but would like to hear from people that have actually done it.

There is an 88 in the Pull-A-Part yard in Winston-Salem that had it's calipers when I was there about a month ago.

Thanks Rick!!

That's not super far from me. I will put that on the list of options, hopefully they are in good shape!

In the meantime, if anyone has a known good set they want to sell, please let me know! Worst case, Monday I'll be making a trip out to Winston Salem. lol

If they are toast anyway, I would blow them apart and see if you can clean them up and put in new O-rings. At least free them up enough to use until you can find new ones...

Yeah, we thought about that, and if we get all the other things done to get this 3800 swap driveable (we're working on wiring right now) we may do that. FieroStore does have that "rebuild" kit that has new boots and o-rings.

Just send your existing calipers to TFS or Calipers on Line as I am sure that they can rebuild them for you. Don't forget they have all the equipment to clean them up and get them working properly. If it turns out you cores can not be repaired or rebuilt I do have some good cores here in Florida. I also have 8 pairs of 88 Front calipers available that I will sell at core pricing. Good Luck with your calipers.

Yes, that's the place.

Thanks Vintage-nut!

I will try to reach out to them. I see they have an R&R service listed.

Larry, yes the Fiero Store would probably do it as well. If we have to go that route, it will come down to who can turn it around fastest. Sounds like I'll be making a few phone calls on Monday as well as hitting that yard!

Thanks for the options guys!

Hey Rick,

Thanks for the tip on that Fiero. It still had all the brake calipers on there. I got the rear ones off. I didn't have a big enough alan key for the oddball lugnuts it had on there, but a torque bit lived long enough to get the rear tire off.

I'm going to head back there and grab some other parts after I'm back from the 40th.

And I did hear from Chris at Caliper world on his rebuild service, so we've got that going too.

Thankfully the the calipers I got from the junkyard were not seized up. So we swapped on the one for the side that was seized, and all is good (enough) for now!

Thanks again!
