My son bought an 85 GT 4 speed car earlier this summer. We found that the previous owner replaced the alternator with one with an incorrect pulley, which is shredding the belt. Does anyone have a V6 alternator, or alternator pulley for sale?
Thank you

Rock Auto....get a new one for an 88. About 60 bucks...the Remy comes with the correct pulley. Why 88? 105 amps, smaller unit. Also order the conversion plug from Rodney Dickman and the alternator reinforcement bracket. To complete the upgrade either the Rodney Dickman Alternator belt idler Or the Dodge runner self adjusting idler pulley.

Agree 100%... except I'd say with the Dodgerunner auto tensioner, the alternator reinforcement bracket is no longer necessary.

Don't ask me how I know.... but the reinforcement bracket is nice to have just in case you happen to 'ncorrectly tap' the 30+ year old pot metal bracket with a wrench while removing the alternator snapping off about an inch from the end.

I went with Rodney Dickman 2.8 V-6 Idler Pulley because the Dodgerunner auto tensioner instructions.....Rodney's was easy to install. http://rodneydickman.com/pr...o.php?products_id=71------------------ Original Owner of a '88 GT and under 'Production Refurbishment'

What's that supposed to mean?
Rodney's idler pulley may be slightly easier to install, but it isn't the same device. Dodgerunner's auto tensioner is a superior product for keeping the alternator belt snug. Once it's installed (and it's not a big deal), the belt never needs further attention. Yes, I promote it every chance I get... because it's that good... and no, I receive no commission from Dodgerunner.

Unfortunately I snapped off enough of the brackets mounting 'ear' that the dodge runner unit has nothing to bolt to. It is a set and forget install. Oh, you will need a different length belt either way you go.
