Just picked up a nice 68k original mile GT for me and my son fix up and him to drive. Only down side is it has a 4 speed so I want to swap a 5 speed into it and while there considering putting a 88 cradle under it. Just wanted to see what is out there parts car or cradle and transmission. I am in central CA and want to find something driving distance from me. Thanks Tom

Good idea but loads of work changing the rear cradle, all the suspension parts AND the exhaust system. As you know the trans will bolt up with a new shifter but right now the Getrag 5 speeds are very hard to find and when they pop up, people ask high prices for them. As for 88 Fiero parts cars they too are scarce as most end up getting restored. You can try contacting Mike Valentine at the new Fiero factory. He has access to the Ed Parks (RIP) collection of Fieros. At one time there were nearly 100 of them. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. Thanks Dennis, I build custom cars for a living so the swap won't be a big deal. Just figured since I am pulling things for the trans swap might as well swap the cradle.

Pretty easy to find a Fiero 5 speed trans either in a wrecking yard or from a private party for $100-200. The trans swap is pretty simple, you wouldn't need a parts car. If you just want an 88 cradle, you're better off just buying a complete cradle with suspension. No reason to get an entire parts car.

You might contact the guy in the Mall that says he's done with Fieros and GM.....

Such being the case then the F23 and F40 5 speeds may be for you. They will bolt up but you will have to do some mods to the shifter and shift levers. Rodney Dickman makes a conversion parts kit for the F23. The F40 will be a fab job but it has been done before. If you go with the F40 that box will provide more strength for a more powerful engine swap later on. If you look in the archives you should find some build threads.------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite.
