Good paint job?

Couple of things... white is the easiest color to paint, less prep, far less effort to match, and the cheapest paint to spray. Other most insurance companies require you to take it to one of their certified facilities, while others may let you take it to one of your choice. But they won't be paying retail price. Other than specialized paint shops, insurance claims are literally their bread and butter, so they get significant discount because they actually control the labor rates. If you take your car to a paint shop (EDIT) yourself, they're going to charge you significantly higher rates... unfortunately. But more importantly, with this work, especially because it's white... they don't need to paint the entire car, just the bumper, fender, rear quarter, and doors... (and paint the lower rocker after repair). So it's not a complete paint job... and where my random estimate comes from.

I wouldn't be happy taking that car back though. When a car is that damaged, it'll never be what it should be... even though they can get it back into spec. These repair shows really don't care... especially when it's warranty work. When my (then) girlfriend (now wife) was hit from behind in her Jetta, I went with her to make sure the repair shop wasn't screwing her. There were so many things I noticed... I could see where they had taped off the portions that they painted and repaired, the rear right tail-light was crooked, and the trunk lid wasn't aligned properly. I rejected it twice before I let my wife take it back.

I mean, I've been wrong before... but I'm pretty adamant that i'm right, but also too lazy to look it up. The insurance companies are "required" to use OEM parts. But salvage parts are included in that. When I had my 2002 Ford Explorer Sport... I got rear-ended every 3 years, and had the rear bumper replaced at least 3 times while I owned it (got rid of it in 2019). They had to get salvage parts because there were no new parts available. When my wife's 2002 Jetta 1.8T was rear-ended, they cut the entire back off another Jetta, and welded it on in place... which are clearly salvage parts, and the car was only a year old at the time. So I'm not sure you're right there.

EDIT: looked it up... yeah, they can use used parts... and apparently, even aftermarket parts too... https://www.thebalance.com/...urance-claims-527111

EDIT #2... Cliff... I'm disappointed in you. Do you really think that the laws would be written against the insurance companies? Hahah... most insurance law is written as a result of lobbying of legislative members! I'm just surprised they allow aftermarket parts. There are some really shitty aftermarket parts coming of out China for body parts... thinner metals, etc... just crap.

The front & rear suspension is tweaked. We will see, insurance has the photo's & will see car today. car only had 22 k miles.

The paint is a Pearl white, she had just put 4 new tires on few weeks back.

I would fight to get that car totaled...

I mean probably. Even in the early 2000s my buddy lost his airbags in an F150 and it ended up a salvage title.

1000% my AMG was totaled if airbags went off. I mean I know it had like 13, but even the 2 in the cheapo 5-speed 6 cylinder bare bones F150 was done. He bought it and drove it years.

I guess I am glad you're on PFF and know everything ever, but in this case I agree.
I guess I can stop asking RAMS and MJ for advice and just call you directly going forward? Roger stopped raking my calls.

The damage on your car reminds me of the body shop I worked in during the late 70s. We had the service contract for the local Ford dealer and would repair brand new cars that were damaged during delivery or on the lot, etc. AFAIR these repairs somehow still qualified as 'new cars' and were not discounted. The worst job I remember was a Mustang that had the entire roof missing (low bridge.) More common were the side-swipes resulting from over-eager handlers backing the cars off the truck at light speed. Good times!

I've loaded and unloaded my fair share, but I never understand this. To what end? How much time do you need to save unloading to cover the cost on a single incident?

A local CDL LTL hit my fence 15 years ago and instead of having him fired, I took his keys, backed his truck, and drank beers with the owner while we fixed our fence. I was already planning to replacing all the fence,

I knew the guy only made $12 an hour. My uncle once told me not to destroy someone's life and especially their livelihood over something that means nothing to me..

Those weren't his words, but instead of calling dispatch he grabbed more beers and another sledge hammer. Being that kind of man with him is something I will always remember. He easily could've called, instead he grabbed beers (10AM), the fork truck, sledge and pry bar. The gate itself after I got my new fence was well into the 10K+ range and had to be transported ironically on its' own trailer. I spent half his salary on a fence and transportation...or I could've had him fired.

Life is hard sometimes. I've been working to not judge people by a single action. He hit a fence. That was nothing doing. My father once backed my truck through his neighbors house and I had to fix it before she got home. Lucky we had keys and a week. He died really recently, so no biggy if he gets turned into the police now.

Hahah... I can't tell if you're angry with me, or being sarcastic... either way, I think you greatly misunderstand my interaction with RAMS and MJ.
