Woman drives on iced up river. Guess what happens......... (Page 2/3)

Ice-racing usually consists of grabbing a go-kart, dirt-bike, golf-cart, snowmobile or whatever else is handy and heading for the nearest frozen slippery whatever. It's fun.

Ice-fishing consists of towing a hut on skids out into the middle of a frozen whatever, then sitting inside it and drinking beer instead of being in a nice warm living room or bar. Also supposedly fun.

We aren't too sure about that last group.

(Actually, with the weather there really hasn't been much of either the past few years around here. Still going 3-4 hours further north.)

So, a single car doing 50 mph down a river through communities qualifies as racing? Hmmm
That winner of this single vehicle race even gets to take her own victory photo. Yeah, I get it.

Same way doing doughnuts in an empty snowy-covered parking lot does.

(Yes, we get bored easily in the winter)

People drive on ice every year. Vehicles go through every year. And?

Yep , a person should really know the ice thickness first though as a good rule of thumb

Sounds like an experienced northerner. The above indicates he knows of what he speaks.

South of the border organized ice racing was a big deal here ( not so much in the last couple of decades as the winters got milder) and consisted of 2 or 3 different classes of cars modified for the purpose. They required most of the same safety stuff that the dirt cars had and competed for a championship throughout NY, VT, and NH.

What that gal did was stupid and irresponsible.

Sir, thank you. And that was my whole point.

Have a great day.

I remember watching those. We have a dirt track here that still does some organized winter racing (weather and track conditions permitting). Drag strips shut it down eons ago. 35-40+ years anyway.

And yeah, Ottawa river isnt the right place, same as the freeway isnt the right place for racing (It's actually called "stunt driving" here.)

MOST (not all) of us have the sense to keep it to private farm ponds or middle-of-nowhere with nobody around.

<edit>

The girls stunt is the kind of stuff that gets laws passed and ruins it for everybody. I'm arguing with some guys on the e-bikes groups about using Stealth Bombers (bikes one hell of a lot faster than legal) in the middle of the day and middle of the city. Just dont. Keep it to the back-roads with nobody around and everybody gets left alone. Be an ass about it and we are going to get regulated off the roads.

When I think of ice racing, I think of nitro burning Jawas with no brakes.

I took this picture in Tucson, believe it or not.
