What do you say when people ask you? (Page 2/3)

!
The Search for Infinity...
Beginning with two symmetrical planets with intertwined gravitational fields curving space time, radiating heat.
Yeah.
lol !

Things are looking up !

Our fathers that live in heaven, or, live with us on this planet, making suggestions, that we ignore.

How can you look at that and tell me there isn't a God?

Take a look in the mirror, randye. Seems to me you're the one in these here parts who's "compelled to mock and ridicule".

Amen.

Depends what "people ask"
Only rarely been asked much of great importance over my lifetime but I answer honestly.

Me? I'm a Christian. But not an evangelist. Further, I mostly have very little patience for evangelists.
My faith is my own business and nobody else's. I won't attempt to force my beliefs on you, and you best not try to force yours on me.
(But don't make comments about my "imaginary friend", either. That will piss me off just about as quickly, and will quickly relegate you to the group of people I don't hang out with much, anymore.)
I usually tell people I am a "recovering catholic". I had a great deal of crap (needless guilt trips, etc.) dumped on me as a kid. Took me decades to get past that sh!t. Am I'm more than just a wee bit resentful. On top of that, I just got tired of all the pomp/circumstance/ceremony of it all.

Aside from all that, I should add (since it's "a thing" with some people) that I was around many priests, up through my late teens - early 20s, and I was never molested, nor do I know anyone who was. Like any other cross-section of society, the small minority of sick fscks get all the press.

I also don't think the current pope (who the Catholics believe is "infallible") is... what word am I looking for... correct? Not in the strictest sense of Church doctrine, anyway.
He's a lot more liberal than the majority of the church, and he's causing a great deal of angst and consternation among the masses.
Me? I don't much care what he does. He is who he is. It's not my decision. I certainly don't claim to have the answers. Just an observation of what I see.
It also has nothing to do with my (dis)association from the church. I've been that way since long before he arrived.

82... With all that I've said, I'm happy to hear about your experiences. I have never really experienced anything that I couldn't chalk up to anything other than "mind tricks" of my own doing. Maybe.
Although I don't claim the organized church anymore, I don't discount that it's perfect for some people.

Martin Luther was probably the original "recovering Catholic"

"Gawd" or whatever ? I honestly haven't got a CLUE if there is some supernatural omnipotent thing running this show..

RELEGION (a whole separate topic)..STFU and GTFY !! Yes that means all 5,000 plus of them. Yes, that means all 7 or 9 or 13 billion on the planet. LEAVE ME ALONE !

I tossed "church" and "religion" out of my life when i was about 10 years old, and have been at war with the entire human race to KEEP it out for over 45 years. NOT interested.

As usual, humans juuusssttttt don't understand "NO". I have my reasons.

Dont mean I wont donate, or help out or volunteer around one or whatever. It DOES mean I aint about to "git religion" anytime....ever. and I dont wanna hear it.

I suppose it's worth mentioning that "Jordan Peterson" has had another "religious epiphany":

I have found that there are alot of people that have a bad experience in some form or other and can't seem to get out of the boxed in frame of mind. Get a different perspective. Reboot. Like a person who had a bad relationship swearing off any future relationship. Or a kid who sees their parents divorce and says marriage isnt any good. I'm glad to hear it didnt wreck your journey.
