Mt. Rushmore has been closed on account of fire. Is God trying to tell us something?

Brush fires close Mt. Rushmore and I-90 in South Dakota, parts of Rapid City evacuated

So if the fires ash and smoke turn the monument black, will that appease the lunatics?

We are getting the 17 year Cicada invasion this year. Appropriate I think.

Yeah, because they love old white dudes dressing up in black face....

I heard they're adding John Wilkes Booth on a second row of heads behind the first.

Back around 1970 I got "my very own tent!"....We would boat camp at Trinity lake every year....SO I was very excited to be sleeping in my tent...The next morning I un-zipped the tent and proudly started to exit...Only to notice hundreds of Cicada skins all over the outside of the tent! The last part of my "Tent-exit" was amazingly fast accompanied by a bit of vocalization.....

In all the years I have camped at Trinity (1965-78 and then 1999 to 2018) I have never seen so many Cicadas as that year.....You could hear them all thru the forest- a wave of their calling would travel thru the trees from the distance past our camp and then off and away. I actually would have liked to re-experience that again (I hope that I would be a bit slower and quieter exiting my tent now, tho.....)

For those of you with no Cicada-experience, here is a cicada and a shed skin.....

You find them stuck to trees and hook them on people's shirts when they aren't paying attention.

We get them every year in late summer. They make one hell of a racket.

I found this guy sitting by my pool a couple of years ago.

He's talking about the 17 year Cicadas coming out this year.
