Atlantic staff writer: Ford's all-electric F-150 'big deal' reducing CO2 emissions. (Page 1/3)

"Ford’s first electric pickup truck signals that decarbonization has entered a new era."

An excerpt:

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the F-150 Lightning is that its target audience is not necessarily consumers. For the first time ever, Ford is selling a version of the F-150 aimed at corporate fleet managers: Think landscaping companies, HVAC-repair companies, electricians, any company that operates multiple trucks at once. Corporate fleets are, in many ways, even better suited for electrification than consumer vehicles. They are driven every day but rarely travel long distances, they benefit from the lower upkeep costs of an EV, and they are usually stored in the same place overnight—which means they can be charged overnight. Ford says that for the first time, fleet managers will be able to see the location of all their trucks on a map, and they will be able to monitor their charge levels remotely. This combination of lower fuel costs and greater workplace surveillance strikes me as all but guaranteeing the electrification of many corporate fleets.

Are you a dumb azz ?

Where does the electric charging come from ? Is Ford’s first electric pickup truck powered by solar panels ? Windmills ? Sails ?

Our installed coup pResident Biden drove it. A female reporter asked if she could present a question about Gaza. He told her only if she stood in front of the truck while he floored it. He really said that.

Wind and solar. They're in the mix. Have a slice from the pie chart that I added to this excerpt from The Atlantic.

But forget about the price or the aesthetics: We need a truck like this. Not so long ago, America’s coal-heavy electricity sector posed the greatest threat to the long-term health and stability of the planet’s climate. Representative Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, could put a Friend of Coal license plate on his Tesla and mean it. Then the whirlwind of the 2010s swept through.

Today, 40 percent of U.S. electricity comes from renewables or zero-power [sic] sources.

Source: EPA.

Now the transportation sector is the country’s dirtiest. America’s gasoline-powered cars and light trucks are the main reason. Cars and light trucks now contribute about 20 percent of U.S. [carbon] emissions, more than any other economic activity.

Mass transit accounts for about 1 percent of passenger miles traveled by land in the United States. Even if Americans quadrupled their use of public transportation, most travel would happen by EV. And even if the country saw a revolution in urban and suburban land use to discourage driving—I am praying for it as much as anyone—private vehicles would remain essential to rural living. We need electric vehicles.

The 40% claim is interesting claim.

Why don't you do a "deep dive" on how that statistic was derived?

“Can I ask you a quick question on Israel before you drive away since it's so important?" a reporter asked the president as he paused for a moment while test-driving Ford’s new electric F-150 on Tuesday.

“No, you can't, not unless you get in front of the car as I step on it ... I'm only teasing," he said.

If he was wearing orange face it would have been a big problem.

Maybe, as the day wears on. If the weather stays clear and calm. But this is a more driver-oriented (not diver-oriented) description of the vehicle:

"2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has 300-mile range and starts at $53k"

Yeah, yeah, yeah.
California can't even keep the lights on reliably, now. Wait until they add a couple of million charging stations to the mix.
(From what I can gather, a charging station is about the same current loading as a clothes dryer.)
Not only will they be sitting in the dark, they won't be able to leave. (Hmmm... maybe not such a bad idea at all.)

Yeah... that'll work. I'm sure of it. They're boned.

EV's have their place. They are great for occasional-use grocery getters or short work commuters in the city.

Pickup trucks were not designed for either of those roles. It's meant to haul whatever I want (and can fit in, on, or behind it), as far as I want, when I want.
