Whirlpool Appliances: Still Garbage (Page 1/1)

FYI: A new 'feature' if you haven't bought an over-the-range microwave in a while: While the microwave is on, the vent fan will run constantly (presumably to cool the cheap Chinese electronics). This cannot be turned off.

My Whirlpool doesn't do that. I really like it too:

The Whirlpool microwave that the wife had in our her kitchen lasted almost 10 years. It didn't do that.

It crapped out a couple of weeks ago and she bought a new "Calphalon" brand microwave / convection oven / air fryer contraption.

I went into our her kitchen to heat up some leftovers soon after she bought the thing and after it went DING! I noticed that the fan didn't turn off.

I was promptly "instructed" that is a feature, not a bug, and that she likes it because (as she claims), "it keeps the inside from getting steamed up and stinking".

The instruction book says that the fan runs longer "to help prolong the life of the unit" but 44.5 years of marriage has taught me not to argue the point with her.

This is likely because that is the only fan in it.

All MW need force air to cool the magnetron at minimum.
Magnetron, How does it work? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUsS5KUMLvw

Worse, the grease and crap from the stove very likely will get thru any filters and "plug up" the MW electronics. So expect a short lifetime.

Dunno. All our Whirlpools are 16 years old without service so far.
Washer Dryer, Fridge, Stove, Dishwasher. The Mircowave lasted 11 years.
Its the only brand I really hear good things about?

I bought a Whirlpool fridge because it was made in the USA. It cost a bunch of money compared to imports but I was finally able to choose not based on price alone. It's only been a couple of years but it's still chugging along.

Top post isn't same MW as counter top etc.
From what post, Has 1 or more speed vent fan, "filter(s)" & light for hood for stove built into a MW.

Every Grease "filters" for home has issues and "leak."
I fix or more often replace many home hoods.
Often replace because so much grease get in the fan assembly because of crap filters and turn rancid and can't clean w/o doing more damage.

very likely new unit has cut cost to make and use vent fan to cool the MW guts.
So If you fry, cook bacon etc and use vent fan then grease will get to MW parts too.
Make sure the filter edges seal or will "leak" a lot faster. Look for leaky seam etc that let air to bypass the filter.

"Plain" filters trap grease and large stuff but often let sticky smoke thru. Can clean or replace as needed.
But Likely the filters here has Carbon layer that tries to block smoke and smells too. If True, the filter must be replace. RTFM to see how often. Likely 1 or several times a year. Might see the carbon layer by removing to see the back.

None of mine have or currently do this. I have a Kenmoore from 2017 as my newest one. It doesn't seem to heat as fast as the one I pulled out that I think blew a fuse.

The one with what I presume is a fuse issue is the exact same and it didn't do it either.
