I took a quick look at it and that is almost EXACTLY the same thought I had.
I also only made it about 10-15 minutes into the first Blair Witch thing before I shut it off.

I left it on for its duration. It stole from so many movies. Blatantly. First thing I noticed was the 2 pilots seeing the UFO. I've arm this exact scene recently in some show. The battery and tapes equipment spend requirements in 1997? No weapons of any kind not even a shotgun or flares? That far out I'd make sure the key was left with the RV in case of emergency. Satellite phone probably not feasible then and maybe unnecessary today, but super cheap insurance now. It had a couple bits of entertainment and at only 70 minutes it was fine being left on. I won't be recommending it though.
