PA supreme court not only overturned but Banned any new actions in the case...

quote
Pennsylvania's highest court threw out Bill Cosby's sexual assault conviction and released him from prison Wednesday in a stunning reversal of fortune for the comedian once known as "America's Dad," ruling that the prosecutor who brought the case was bound by his predecessor's agreement not to charge Cosby.
...
The justices said that overturning the conviction, and barring any further prosecution, "is the only remedy that comports with society's reasonable expectations of its elected prosecutors and our criminal justice system."

Makes me sick.
pedophiles, rapists, physical abuse...
Far too many of these kinds of crimes don't get the justice they deserve.

As much as I detest an admitted sex offender getting off, I also believe that if the state offers a deal and it's agreed to, then all bets are off (in this case) as far as prosecuting for the crime. The previous DA agreed to not prosecute to get what he wanted (an admission of guilt), his replacement used the confession to prosecute. Sorry but, a deal is a deal. If we're gonna blame someone, then blame the first DA for making the deal. The second DA was wrong to prosecute. Just my opinion and apparently that of the Court.

It's also important to know and remember that this only applies to the one conviction. Mr. Cosby could always be prosecuted for other crimes.

That, is pretty much how I see it as well, tho I doubt the woman agrees with it.
There's a difference between being legally wrong and morally wrong, and the Pa. State appeal process had to go with what was legal.

Lots of 'stuff' evidently goes on behind the scenes with these plea agreements.

I'm totally aligned with BR and MJ on this. A deal is a deal, if agreed upon with law enforcement. While the actions may be morally wrong, there was a formal deal in place.

I absolutely HATE when politicians or law enforcement try to put law, tax or retrospective lookback provision. It seems that I hear more of these retrospective rules being proposed; maybe this is just an offshoot of the modern cancel culture where we apply todays standard to what happened in the past.

I wonder if he will be a hero for surviving the ravages of racist America, or will he be shunned as a rapist that got away with it?
