People don't really concern themselves with alternate lifestyles, in general. They just don't want it promoted.

Russian retailer says sorry for ‘unprofessionalism’ after health food advert featuring lesbian vegan parents sparks row in country
5 Jul, 2021 11:02

A popular chain of upmarket Russian grocery stores that prides itself on fresh and healthy fare has issued a formal apology after running an advertisement that featured a lesbian couple and their children talking about veganism.
On Sunday, the Moscow-based retail giant VkusVill released a statement in which it acknowledged that the ad, part of a recent publicity campaign, “had hurt the feelings of a large number of our customers, employees, partners and suppliers.”

Signed by the company’s founder, Andrey Krivenko, and its senior leadership, the open letter said the firm “regretted” the decision to publish the clip and blamed it on “the unprofessionalism of individual employees.” The firm’s goal, it said, was “to make sure our customers receive fresh and tasty products every day, not to publish any political or social views. In no way did we want to become a source of strife and hatred.”

Yeah, regarding the statement by the founder, I smell bullchit. Russians aren't playing that game and the activist retailer felt the smack down. But this is just a reflection on why Russia is our govt's enemy.

Ah, wouldn't it be nice.

And of course the ad was the actors dialoging with each other about the righteousness of promoting their lifestyle.

Meanwhile in Georgia...the nation, not the state ..they don't want to hear that chit no mo neither. NATO won't be happy about this rejection of our values.

LGBT activists in Georgia have cancelled a Pride march in the capital Tbilisi after violent clashes ahead of the parade.

Violent groups stormed and ransacked the office of gay rights campaigners on Monday, Georgian authorities confirmed.

Activists posted photos and videos of people breaking into the premises and some journalists had reported that their equipment was broken in the attack.

After scuffles between anti-LGBT groups and the police, the organisers of the 2021 Pride said they would be cancelling the event.

“The authorities did not ensure the security of the community and our supporters,” a statement on Facebook read.

“We can not go to the streets full of violent people backed by the authorities and patriarchate and put people’s lives at risk.”

“War was declared against civil society and democratic values.”

I'm not sure your thoughts on it.

Violence and threats arent required or recommended. But the right to protest someone elses protest, or someone elses parade, or even something you just think isnt a good thing, should remain a right. I have no idea the laws in Russia.

There is no "Soviet Russia" anymore.

There is no "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics" anymore either.

The demise of both effectively ended Yakov Smirnoff's comedy career.

He had a pretty good signature routine. I do remember one notable flop when he was in Canada and said something like "America, what a country!" and the audience kind of sat there staring at him.

An online clampdown on social media accounts associated with China’s campus LGBTQ movement has sparked outrage, solidarity and backlash against the authorities’ treatment of the country’s sexual and gender minorities.

Dozens of WeChat accounts run by LGBTQ university students were blocked and then deleted on Tuesday without warning. Some of the accounts – a mix of registered student clubs and unofficial grassroots groups – had operated for years as safe spaces for China’s LGBTQ youth, with tens of thousands of followers.

Attempts to access the WeChat accounts were met with an error message that said the content had been blocked and the account deactivated “after receiving relevant complaints”. Other messages said the accounts had “violated regulations on the management of accounts offering public information service on the Chinese internet”, Reuters reported.

The shutdowns have added to concern over China’s worsening intolerance of sexual and gender minorities and activism, which has also targeted feminist groups and individuals who have sought to push back against discrimination.
On Weibo, a post by the Shihe Society at Fudan University confirming the shutdown of its WeChat account was shared tens of thousands of times. “We were able to create a reliable channel with the outside, but now our communication will largely rely on Weibo and private WeChat groups,” it said.

Many Weibo comments appeared to be deleted quickly, but others expressed anger at the censorship. “Every love deserves to be seen and respected,” said one.

“I can’t believe this happened in 2021, I can’t believe it happened in the universities which should have the most pioneering spirit and be teaching people tolerance and respect,” said another.

The US state department spokesperson, Ned Price, said the department was aware of the shutdowns and was concerned that China had restricted the accounts of groups that were “merely expressing their views, exercising their right to freedom of expression and freedom of speech”.

The article goes on. But ain't nobody got time for that.

From your China segment quote "I can’t believe it happened in the universities which should have the most pioneering spirit and be teaching people tolerance and respect,”

I am baffled at what people think universities are for.
